How do I clean and maintain my Pikkuroof?

Pikkuroof requires minimal ongoing maintenance compared to traditional solid roofing, but a few simple practices ensure it remains clean, taut, and functional for maximum lifespan. Most maintenance tasks take only minutes and require no special skills or equipment.

Cleaning Frequency and Methods
Clean your Pikkuroof 2-3 times per year—typically in spring, mid-summer, and autumn—to remove accumulated dirt, pollen, leaves, and other organic debris. Occasional cleaning is sufficient; excessive cleaning (weekly or monthly) isn't necessary and may gradually wear the PVC surface over time. For routine cleaning, use a specialized PVC cleaner formulated to maintain flexibility and clarity without damaging the material—we offer suitable PVC cleaner on our website. Alternatively, use a mild dish soap solution (2-3 drops per bucket of lukewarm water) applied with a soft sponge or cloth, working in gentle circular motions across the surface. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove all cleaning agent residue. For larger roof panels or hard-to-reach installations, you can carefully use a pressure washer on a low pressure setting (below 2000 PSI / 140 bar), holding the nozzle at least 50 cm (20 inches) from the PVC surface. Never use high-pressure settings directly on the material—excessive pressure can puncture or tear the PVC film, especially along edges or seams.

Snow and Water Load Management
The most critical maintenance task is preventing excessive snow or water accumulation that overloads your Pikkuroof. After heavy snowfall, use a soft-bristled broom or roof rake to gently push snow off the Pikkuroof surface from below or the sides—never from above by standing on a ladder and pushing down, as this applies dangerous point loads to the material. Allow the snow to slide off naturally following your roof's pitch. Similarly, if you notice water pooling in any low spots (which suggests inadequate roof pitch or sagging), use a soft broom to push the water toward the edges where it can drain off. Prolonged water or snow accumulation stresses the material and mounting hardware, accelerating wear and potentially causing failure. Regular clearing during winter or rainy seasons prevents this problem.

What NOT to Do
Never walk, step, or place any weight directly on your Pikkuroof—the material is designed to support only its own weight plus environmental loads
