Accurate Pikkuroof measurements are straightforward but require careful attention to ensure your custom panel fits perfectly. Unlike Pikkuna side curtains with complex shapes and multiple dimensions, Pikkuroof needs only two measurements—but they must be precise.
What You Need
Gather a measuring tape (at least 5 meters / 16 feet long for typical roof openings), paper, and pencil to record your measurements. A helper makes the process easier, especially for large roof openings where one person holds the tape while the other reads and records. If possible, use a metal measuring tape rather than a fabric one—metal tapes don't sag or stretch, providing more accurate readings across long spans.
Measure the Full Roof Opening Dimensions
You need two measurements: the total width (the shorter dimension, typically running parallel to the rafters), and the total length (the longer dimension, typically running perpendicular to the rafters from front to back of your roof structure). Measure from the outer edge of your outermost rafters on one side to the outer edge on the opposite side. For width, this is typically the left-to-right span of your roof opening. For length, measure the front-to-back depth of your roof opening. These measurements represent the full roof surface area that Pikkuroof will cover—don't subtract anything or try to account for rafter dimensions. Measure in a straight line, even if your opening spans multiple rafters.
Verify Your Measurements
Measure each dimension twice—once at the front edge and once at the back edge for width, or once on the left side and once on the right side for length. If the measurements differ by more than 1-2 cm, your opening isn't perfectly rectangular and you should note the discrepancy when ordering. For rectangular openings, the measurements should be nearly identical.
