A weighted bottom edge is a specialized mounting option that uses gravity and a removable weight bar to maintain vertical tension in your Pikkuna curtain without requiring bottom fasteners. Instead of attaching the bottom edge to your frame with turn buttons, hooks, or screws, the curtain hangs freely with an internal weight pocket that keeps it taut and wrinkle-free.
How the Weighted Bottom Edge Works
When you order this option, we sew a horizontal pocket into the bottom edge of your curtain, running the full width with openings at each end. A solid metal or composite weight bar (typically aluminum or steel) slides into this pocket, distributing weight evenly across the entire bottom edge. The weight bar's mass—usually 1-2 kg depending on curtain width—pulls the PVC film downward under gravity, creating consistent vertical tension that keeps the surface smooth and flat. The weight pocket adds 10 cm to your curtain's total height, and this extra dimension is automatically calculated in our system when you order—you don't need to account for it in your measurements.
When to Use a Weighted Bottom Edge
Choose this option in several scenarios: First, when you cannot or don't want to install bottom fasteners—common when the curtain extends to ground level where there's no bottom frame to attach to, or when you want the curtain to hang freely past a deck railing or balcony edge. Second, for aesthetic reasons—the weighted bottom creates a perfectly straight, clean bottom edge with no visible hardware. Third, when you need easy height adjustment—simply slide the weight bar partially in or out to raise or lower the curtain slightly without changing any fasteners. Fourth, in windy conditions with open bottom edges—the weight keeps the curtain from flapping upward like an unfastened sheet.
Installation and Removal
Installing a weighted bottom edge is simple: after mounting the top and side edges using your chosen fastening method (turn buttons, hooks, screws, or Velcro), slide the weight bar into the bottom pocket through the end openings until it's centered. The curtain immediately hangs taut under the weight. To remove the weight bar for rolling up the curtain or for winter storage, simply slide the bar out through either end opening and store it separately. The pocket remains sewn into the curtain and doesn't interfere with rolling or folding when the weight is removed. Note that weighted bottom edges work best on curtains up to
